What is the difference between a two-piece toilet and a one-piece toilet?

Release time:2025-08-31

  1. The main features of a two-piece toilet are a high water level, strong flush, a relatively low price, and a wide variety of styles. Two-piece toilets primarily use a flush-down drain. Because they are two-piece, the water tank and main body are not manufactured together, resulting in consistent quality throughout. The choice of two-piece toilets is limited by the pit distance. If the pit distance is much smaller, a wall can be designed behind it. A two-piece toilet features a high water level, resulting in a strong flush, but also a high level of noise, so families who prefer quiet should consider this carefully. One-piece toilets are characterized by their more stylish design. However, because the water tank level is lower, they use more water to ensure effectiveness, and the price is higher than that of a two-piece toilet.

  2. One-piece toilets are mostly siphonic, making them very quiet. However, due to the manufacturing process, the water tank and main body are manufactured together, resulting in a lower yield rate. Due to the low water level, the pit distance is generally short to increase flushing power. One-piece toilets are not restricted by pit distance; as long as the pit distance is smaller than the house pit distance, they will work. Two-piece toilets, also known as direct-discharge toilets, have a powerful flush but also a loud noise. Their water tank and toilet bowl are separate, requiring bolts to connect them during installation.

  3. Two-piece toilets are cheaper, but more difficult to install. The water tank is more susceptible to damage, but less prone to clogging. Toilet paper can be placed directly into the bowl, eliminating the need for a wastebasket. One-piece toilets, also known as siphonic toilets, have a single-piece tank and toilet bowl. Installation is simpler, but they are more expensive and longer than two-piece toilets. One-piece toilets come in two types: siphon jet (quiet noise) and siphon spiral (fast, thorough, low-odor, and low-noise).

The above is our introduction to the advantages and disadvantages of one-piece and two-piece toilets. The decision between one-piece and two-piece toilets depends on your home needs. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages, so it's important to understand them before purchasing. Furthermore, when using the toilet, do not throw paper scraps or other debris into the toilet and flush them away at will, as this will cause the toilet to become clogged.
